I’m not sure Fannie is here to help at all. If the heavy weights wanted to help, the epidemic wouldn’t have escalated to the outrageous rate that it has grown to. Now I know that programs like Cramdown may have increased bankruptcy filings as a escape to foreclosure without bankruptcy; however this type of mindset would atleast put the power of modification into local hands, rather then the lenders. It has been seen throughout history that the one whom holds the monopoly never “helps” but tries to strengthen its hold, regardless of the cost.
